چکیده

In this paper, a bespoke stress and temperature controlled direct shear apparatus to test soil-geosynthetics interfaces is introduced. By adopting the apparatus, series of ‘rapid loading’ tests creep were conducted on Clay – Geosynthetic Drainage layer (GDL) assess functionality apparatus. The experimental results indicate that, modified can allow deformation behaviour under environmental during thermal drying-wetting cycles be investigated, with reliable performance. resistance Clay-GDL rapid loading decreases after cycle at elevated temperature. tests, subjected fail lower level than that without experiencing cycles, respectively. impacts drying horizontal displacement significantly larger wetting cycles. first has largest those following alone are small, main influence factor

Soil Reinforcement and Geosynthetics

In the context of sustainable development which is a balancing act between the fulfilment of human needs and the protection of the natural environment, the use of natural fibers such as coir in geotechnical applications is desirable. Reinforcing the soil with coir fibers/coir geotextiles is a cost effective solution to the ground/soil improvement problems. The effects of fiber parameters on the...

Interaction Properties of Geosynthetic with Different Backfill Soils

Characterization of a geosynthetic is necessary for its effective use in various field application of reinforced soil structure. In this paper, a new type of geosynthetic has been evaluated for its interaction properties for different backfill soils using direct shear device. The test results are compared based on the type of soils, inclusions, and interface mechanical properties. Three backfil...

Studying the effect of roughness on soil-geotextile interaction in direct shear test

Abstract One of the methods of increasing soil resistance against failure is soil reinforcement using geosynthetics. Soil-geosynthetic interactions are of great importance and are affected by friction and adhesion at their interface. Soil gradation, contact surface roughness and geotextile density are among the factors affecting soil-geotextiles interaction this study, to investigate the eff...

Direct observation of shear-induced orientational phase coexistence in a lyotropic system using a modified x-ray surface forces apparatus.

The second generation x-ray surface forces apparatus (XSFA-II) allows for the first time simultaneous in situ small-angle x-ray scattering and surface force measurements. We have used the XSFA-II to monitor shear-induced orientational transitions in a lyotropic model lubricant system. Upon applying small shear amplitudes (approximately 20 micrometer) to a relatively thick (approximately 800 mic...
